Human beings as sexual beings

Question: How do I understand myself or general human beings as sexual beings, and how do I live as sexual being?


Reflecting on what I already knew and what I have learned about sexuality, I think that firstly my method is changing, it is not the way of collecting more information and knowledge, but reconstruction of some things which is already there in me, some concepts or some perception I have had before now are reformed. Surely one of them is sexuality. It is somehow not easy, because the word which is the translation of ‘sexuality’ in Vietnamese language impressed my mind, it frames my thought. On this reflection paper, I do step by step to answers the question above.

Honestly, I was moved much when watching these two films. It is the time when there are somethings changed in myself, perception, attitude, and emotion. In my reflection, I am going to share my point of view according to two topics above.

 “What we are?” or “who we are?” is always the never lasting question coming to one as a human being. The way we know what or who we are is also the way we live and identify ourselves and so what are ‘others’, what is purpose or meaning of life, and what make humanity?

Nowadays, there are many studies and movements fighting for feminism, in society and the church. Their thought and behaviors are often about condemning and showing men's problems and claiming equal gender rights for women. However, there are very little research on men and masculine. On the one hand, it takes away one aspect of understanding women; on the other hand, it avoids the study of men.

Therefore, this article would like to seek the overview perception of men in today's society, particularly in the Vietnamese society and the Vietnamese Church, then think and draw some necessary reflection, and make pastoral program to support them.
